On attempting the log on to the HexWar web site to send or receive game turns using the HexWar game launcher you received the message ‘Unable to Load Test.htm’ OR this help screen came up automatically.

On the HexWar web site is a very small web page ‘test.htm’ and at the start of all Internet Connections the HexWar Game Launcher attempts to open this page as a quick way to test if there is a working Internet connection.

Potential Reasons for the Problem:

It is possible that the 'HexWar' server is undergoing maintenance. This rarely stops the HexWar web service for more than 5 minutes at a time once a day so if you try to connect again in a few minutes and you still can not connect it is unlikely to be a problem on the HexWar web site. If any maintenance was to stop the server for longer than this there is usually a news item posted to http://www.hexwar.com.
You may not be connected to the Internet.
The most common issue is that your firewall software or hardware is not allowing the HexWar game launcher (hexwar.exe) to connect to the Internet. Reasons for this usually include:
- Updating or changing your firewall software.
- Updating, changing or reinstalling the HexWar Game launcher.

Possible Connection Solutions:

Please check your Internet Connection. A simple way is to use your browser to open a web site that updates regularly (that way it will not be in your local PC’s cache) e.g. http://www.msnbc.com.
Check that you have the latest version of the HexWar Game Launcher from the download page on the HexWar web site. It is very unlikely that downloading the same version of the Game Launcher as you currently have installed will do anything other than force you to have to reset your firewall settings.
The firewall is by far the most common issue. Almost all Firewalls keep ‘hidden’ version numbers of all software they have had to manage. These are not version numbers used by any other software. If HexWar.exe was installed and working and you load a patch (even if already installed), most firewalls will now treat this as a new and different application. Even though you may look up your firewall settings and see HexWar.exe as an acceptable program, it is usually NOT the same version of HexWar.exe as the firewall understands.

The simple solution is always to delete all settings in the firewall for HexWar.exe. Load the HexWar Game Launcher again and attempt to connect to the Internet again. Most Firewalls will now automatically ask you if you wish to allow HexWar.exe to connect to the Internet where the answer must be ‘yes’.

General Firewall Information

Many users will have to reset their Firewall settings after installing the 'Full' or 'Patch' versions of the HexWartm Game Launcher.
The software application requiring Internet access for most Firewall settings is 'HexWar.exe'.
In most firewalls if you delete all existing settings for 'HexWar.exe' the firewall will set it up again the next time you load the HexWartm Game Launcher application.
Some firewalls may request additional information.
